AIWa is alo a proud Member of the International Wado Federation!

A Non-Political Alliance with Original Foundations Established in 1982 by GE Swift Hanshi.
GE Swift (8th Dan) Hanshi
The President of the Alliance of International Wado-ryu is GE Swift 8th Dan of British Wadokai (IWF 9th Dan).
Sensei Swift was born in Plymouth, Devon, in 1956. He started his martial-arts training at the early age of 10 at his junior school in 1966. His first taste of martial-arts was learning the popular systems, at that time, of Ju-jutsu and Judo.
After a move to senior school he was also introduced to the skills of Thai-boxing (known then as Kick-boxing) by one of his gym teachers. After his arrival to the South of England in 1972, from Liskeard (Cornwall), he started Suzuki Tatsuo Hanshi's Wado-ryu Karate in Guildford and Bisley (Surrey), under his most influential Instructor, Sensei Mike Rapley, in 1974. Regular instructors at this time included Suzuki Tatsuo Hanshi, Maeda Tadayuki Sensei, Shiomitsu Masafumi Sensei and Kobayashi Katsumi Sensei.
From this day onwards he studied numerous other forms of Karate, as well as; Shorinji-kempo, Muay-Thai, Malaysian Taekwondo (Thoi-kuen-do), Korean HoSin-sul Hapkido, various weapons systems, and a variety of other Japanese, Korean, and Chinese martial-arts. Today he is holder of numerous titles and ranks in martial-arts including 9th Dan in Wado Karate, 6th Dan in Seishin-ryu Karate, 2nd Dan in Korean HoSin-Sul Hapkido, and 1st Dan in Malaysian Thoi-kuen-do.
He is the Founder-President (Saiko-Shihan) of the Alliance of International Wado-ryu (AIWa est. 1982), and Chief Instructor (Kyoshi) to the Domei Kokusai Wadokai (DKW est. 1976). He has also had membership & recognition within the JKF-Wadokai (JKF-Wadokai England), World Union of Karate Organisations (WUKO), the English Karate Governing Body (EKGB), the Federation of English Karate Organisations (FEKO), the English Karate Federation (EKF), the Martial-arts Development Commission (MADEC), the Malaysian Pugilistic Federation (MPF), and the Korean Martial-arts of South East Asia-Pacific (KOMA-SEA-PAC).
Instructors have included the famous: Ohtsuka Hironori Meijin 10th Dan Meijin (founder of Wado-ryu), Suzuki Tatsuo Hanshi 8th Dan (Wado-ryu), Tomiyama Keiji Shihan 9th Dan (Shito-ryu), Sabomnim Hoi Hean Thow 8th Dan (Thoi-kuen-do, Tong-long, Bo-jutsu, Escrima), Dr. Julian S Lim 8th Dan (Hapkido, HoSin-sul), Sakagami Kuniaki (8th Dan) Honbucho.
His return to the UK-Southwest, in July 2002, has allowed him to open new clubs and build a new BWK-Honbu in the region for AIWa and British Wadokai.

About the Alliance of International Wadoryu (AIWa)
AI-Wa - 'Harmony and peace'. The initials also stand for the '(A)lliance of (I)nternational (Wa)do-ryu' (foundations established in 1982). An international organisation that was the forerunner of the International Wado Federation, founded by Sensei GE Swift Hanshi, and dedicated to unifying autonomous & independent Wado groups throughout the world for the benefit of mutual technical understanding and exchange. AIWa is still active today, operating as an International Alliance, to assist International British Wadokai (ex-pat) instructors in order to preserve and maintain the British Wadokai principles within those overseas clubs. However, traditionally, this alliance is always extended to  autonomous Wado groups worldwide.
AIWa is the Founder Member & Inspiration of the International Wado Federation (IWF).

The History of AIWa and the AIWa Badge
The name AIWA (pronounced 'eye wa') is made up from the initials of the Alliance of International Wadoryu (A.I.Wa). The initials are made from '(A)lliance of (I)nternational (Wa) Wadoryu. However there are also further connotations.
AI-WA also refers to 'Mutual Harmony', the ‘underpinning’ foundation and principle of AIWa.
The badge, originally designed by GE Swift Hanshi in 1982 (and painstakingly 'computer-refined & generated' by Scott Gawne 4th Dan, with his computer 'wizardry'), represents the Yin-Yang (blue for yin and the white ‘side viewing’ dove ©, the yang), which represents the ‘Ai’ (harmony) in AIWa. The Kanji ‘Wa’ represents peace. If you would like to see further how the AIWa badge developed and was created, please see images to the right.
